"Just wanted to share how much I absolutely love your work. Ethereal and just so lovely and a great size! No tiny amounts of coffee here! I just bought my second mug today and I can’t wait. Not only are they gorgeous and uniquely so, they are sturdy. I drink out of mine almost daily. Funny story. My mother in law opened my cabinet the other day to grab a mug and GASPED when she saw your mug. Begged me to tell her where I got it. I shared your work and she too has fallen in love. "

"I have been a loyal customer of Hilary’s for quite some time now, and I cannot speak highly enough of her talent and craftsmanship. Her custom-made pieces are truly a work of art, and I have built up a beautiful collection of her pottery over the years. Not only do I cherish these pieces as my prized possessions, but I also love to gift them to my loved ones, knowing that they will appreciate the artistry and quality as much as I do. Every morning, I look forward to selecting a mug from my collection, each one unique and special in its own way. Thank you, Third Hand Studios, for your exceptional work that brings joy and beauty into my life."

"Every mug I have bought holds an incredible amount of intention. All six mugs, with two being gifts, have been absolutely beautiful. The glaze work is top notch. I love the feel of mystery from the crystal adornments, and the design themes tell a story from the heart. I foresee many more Third Hand Studios ceramic pieces in my future."

A favorite quote of mine is:

"make the difficult easy,
make the easy habitual, and
make the habitual beautiful."

I believe it is the every day items we share connection with which hold our significant memories and meaning. I strive to add beauty to the objects that make up our habits and surround our routines, from the coffee mug I press against my palms while listening to morning birdsongs, or a table vase arranged with flowers gifted from the garden, to the bowl filled with morning's breakfast or ice cream celebrations. Clay absorbs our energy and feelings and I love placing intention into creating beautiful and functional every day items to use, love, and live with.
I hope the work I make lasts decades, even centuries, in a world increasingly accustomed to disposable materialism. I like to think that the ancient earth and minerals used to create each piece will continue to collect stories and memories for lifetimes to come. The creation process of ceramics is time laden and requires patience and, ultimately, pure faith and hope! I can spend hours throwing, designing, carving, sculpting, drying, smoothing, and glazing where, in the end, I must offer my best work to the kiln where chemistry and time transform it into its final form as something anew. Every piece is unique with its own element of unpredictability and surprise, and each cycles is intimately tied to the elements of earth, water, air, and fire!
